We're delighted to welcome another highly experienced energy lawyer to our team!
Simon Nicholls has 14 years' experience in the corporate energy industry, having held senior legal and commercial roles in various law firms (including SNR Denton and Dechert LLP) and energy companies during this time.
As a lawyer, Simon has acted for developers, sponsors and banks and has advised on over 3,000MW of installed power. He has drafted and negotiated EPC, O&M and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for numerous IPPs and IWPPs in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Simon has also advised on numerous mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and joint ventures in the energy and other sectors.
More recently: Simon held the role of General Counsel to a Middle East power developer; in this role, he structured and successfully negotiated a 128MW baseload power project in Sierra Leone. In the UK, Simon has also been involved in structuring and developing biomass, hydro and solar projects. He has also managed to squeeze in studying for an MSc in Applied Environmental Economics from the University of London, which included studies on Sustainable Development, Climate Change and International Envrionmental Law.
With Simon's appointment, the Renew Legal team now numbers seven senior specialist Renewable Energy lawyers, with a combined experience of 130 years (and with the grey hairs to prove it!). In terms of number of senior and experienced Renewables specialists, this rivals many of the large generalist "jack of all trades" commercial law firms.
